Some adjectives - crazy, ridiculous, non compos mentis, unhinged.

Andy, what would you do with this if it flowered for you like Sam has shown. I assume cross it with something to bring the spike size down by 8 feet.

I hate those rampant Oncidiums and never use them in hybridizing!

You would need a much taller greenhouse for a start Mr Cym.

Re: Don't grow species!!
Hasn’t been used a lot in hybridising; there was a well-behaved and good-looking Miltonidium x Yellow Chat Alligator (Onc. multiflorum x Milt. flavescens) registered in 2019 by Walterney Pires, but apart from this the rest of the documented primary hybrids are leggy, wonky & crumbly. I could not find any mating with a complex Odont. in the literature.
I wonder what would happen if eg. an Odcdm. Tiger Hambuehren, or something similar, would be used with multiflorum ? Sam, have you done anything like that ?
And I am interested in one or two Onc. multiflorum as well, please.

Re: Don't grow species!!
Further research has revealed that Oncidium multiflorum is one of more than a dozen synonyms for the basionym Oncidium baueri - which is the valid name for the species. A bit more information plus a few impressive images of spikes can be found here:

Quite a species, not too frequently used in hybridisation, but the primary hybrid with Miltonia flavescens indicates the potential.
